Community based projects make up a significant part of the Aberdeenshire programme.  As well as being enjoyable and high quality opportunities for our older young people, these projects develop their skills for learning, life and work.  Responding to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), children and young people are also encouraged to co-design their programmes, being supported to influence and lead, and have their voices heard.

Our ‘Upload’ project takes music-making beyond the classroom, reaching a wide range of groups across Aberdeenshire—especially older young people who might not otherwise get the chance to experience music in this way. Every project is as unique as the young people who take part. Some groups dive into songwriting and recording, while others create films and music videos to make sure their voices are heard. For many, it’s simply about having fun, building confidence, and discovering new skills in a supportive, creative space.

We also open up conversations about the many exciting career paths in music and the wider creative industries, giving young people a glimpse into what’s possible for their future. These sessions are always buzzing with energy, packed with laughter, and consistently produce inspiring, original work that everyone involved can be proud of.

We’d like to give a special shout-out to Aberdeenshire’s incredible YPOC Group (Young People’s Organising and Campaigning Group). As part of the YMI Programme, this inspiring team has created two powerful and thought-provoking films that they’re proud to share with you.
