"This was a celebration of the Youth Music Initiative's 20th year in both Scotland and Aberdeenshire, supporting children's creative potential;  the 25 years that Macduff Marine Aquarium has been enriching us with knowledge and exploration;  and the value of children's art in keeping culture alive in our communities.

Textile artist Eleanor Macdonald (NORAA) and sound artist Samm Anga, brought together their crafts to engage children with the practice of story-telling and folklore, which has been central to knowledge inheritance in Scotland for Millennia.

After delving into the story of the Kelpie - with it's vividly familiar setting and captivating character, which together impart important lessons about respecting animals and keeping safe near water - each group then embarked on an enchanting visit to the aquarium to learn about local sea life.  They made meaningful connections through drawing, as well as listening and recording underwater sounds.

This led to an array of bold character creation, expressive painting and atypical music-making that all come together in this multi-sensory space of cloth and song.

We welcome you to take the plunge...  Dive in to these worlds, be washed by the richness of their imaginations and re-connect with that natural wonder and playfulness that exists within us all.
