Meet Cricketer Samantha Robson

Samantha Robson plays cricket for Huntly Cricket Club, Caledonian Highlanders Regional team and Scotland Under 18's Emerging Squad.

What inspired you to take up your sport?

One of my club coaches went round all the primary schools giving taster sessions of cricket and I loved it so joined the club.

Which club did you start your sporting journey with?

Huntly Cricket Club

What has been your biggest challenge in your sporting journey, and how did you overcome this?

Travelling has been a challenge as a lot of the women’s cricket is in the south of Scotland so anything between two and a half hours or more to get to training and games every weekend.

What are your goals for the coming year?

To play against England County teams and win.

What does your training programme involve, and does this impact on other areas of your life?

During the winter I trained with the Under 19's at the weekend, my club once a week and regional training also once a week. Now the season has started and I am training twice a week plus throughout the winter and the season I have strength and conditioning sessions to complete twice a week.

What skills do you have that have helped you succeed in your sport?

Resilience, motivation, teamwork.

How many competitions do you plan to compete in?

So far I have three regional games at the weekend, club games are every weekend and at the end of June we go down to England with the Scotland Under 18's squad.

How do you deal with setbacks in your sport, whilst training or competing?

Keep a positive mindset that I will get better and that motivates me to keep going.

Who is your biggest inspiration from the world of sport?

Probably Nat Sciver Brunt due to her being an all rounder as that is very hard to do in the cricket world. Also she has recently been appointed Captain which is a huge accolade and I hope she does well.

What is your greatest achievement in your sport?

Taking 5 wickets in the cup final for my club.

What helps you to stay motivated and focused during your training?

Having good friends training with me.

What advice would you give to others just starting out in any sport?

Work hard to improve and when you improve lots of opportunities will come your way.

How will your Talented Athlete Pass help you develop and hone your skills as an athlete?

So that I can complete my strength and conditioning session with ease at the gym.

Is there anywhere people could find more information about your upcoming sporting activity? (Facebook, Website / Twitter)
