Gwen and is a cross-country skier who trains with the British Nordic Development Squad. She has been cross-country skiing for the last three years and her local club is the Huntly Nordic Ski Club. When there is snow they train in the Clash Forest at Rhynie, but the rest of the time they roller-ski on the purpose built track at Huntly or on the local roads. She also goes overseas to train on snow and race in International Competitions.

To progress within the Squad we have to achieve certain benchmarks for technique, running and strength. I am not a natural runner so had to train smart and stay positive to achieve my running goals.
To be the best at getting better - I want to achieve top positions in my age categories both in the UK and abroad.
My training plan involves technique, endurance, strength and cross-training sessions. I get one rest day a week and have to juggle training with school work. The biggest impact is the lack of lie-ins on the weekends.
Determination and resilience.
I have competed in a number of rollerski competitions over the summer, coming second in my age category and plan to race in at least three international competitions on snow over the winter.
I eat ice-cream, usually chocolate...and then get back up and keep working towards my goals.

Being selected for the Squad, achieving second place in the roller-ski series this year.
My goal of wanting to get better and achieve top positions in competitions.
To enjoy it, have fun and you never know where it might take you.
Strength training is a key component of cross-country ski training. Having access to the Aberdeenshire Council gym facilities will allow me to effectively do this training. In addition, access to the pool will help with my cross-training sessions.
