Live Life Aberdeenshire staff from the Ellon Community Campus and Collieston Community Committee joined forces recently to deliver a water safety and rookie lifesaving session to 15 local children.
This took place at Collieston Beach on Friday 26th July and was attended by children aged between 8 and 16 years old. They learned how to undertake CPR, use an AED Defibrillator and take action if someone is choking.
The course was designed to address a recent claim by the Royal Lifesaving Society UK that "77% of people either don't know, or are unsure of, how to perform CPR and millions of people wouldn't know how to give basic first aid to another adult".
Collieston hosts 2 AED Defibrillators for community use and although these are designed to be operated in an emergency by someone with no training, this course gave younger people the confidence to use it if ever called upon.
