Live Life Aberdeenshire and Aberdeeshire Health and Social Care Partnership are working closely together to provide education and professional support in the management of diabetes for individuals, their carers and health care professionals. The service is delivered in a variety of ways and we are here to help you access the most appropriate support.
Diabetes can present as two different types, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. The advice provided here is for people living with Type 2 diabetes. If you have Type 1 diabetes and looking for advice, please contact your diabetes team.
Type 2 diabetes is a serious condition where the insulin your pancreas makes can't work properly, or your pancreas can't make enough insulin. This means your blood glucose (sugar) levels keep rising. If left untreated, high sugar levels in your blood can seriously damage parts of your body, including your eyes, heart and feet. These are called complications of diabetes but with the right treatment and care, you can live well with type 2 diabetes and also reduce your risk of developing them.
Learning how to live well with Type 2 diabetes can be challenging. The majority of people can manage their diabetes through healthier eating, being more active and losing weight. Making short and long term changes to your lifestyle does require support from your healthcare team, family and friend, but ultimately you are in charge.
Live Life Aberdeenshire libraries are working in partnership with Diabetes UK to provide information and support for people living with diabetes. Library staff across Aberdeenshire have accessed training to enable them to signpost people to useful resources. Pop into to your local library for more information.
