Scottish government advice has now removed all previous information regarding advice for school trips from webpages. We are therefore advising schools to follow the following advice for trips abroad.

In relation to foreign travel the best source of advice is the Foreign Office. The Foreign Office website link will take you to a list of 226 destinations and clicking on the relevant country will then lead you on to a separate page detailing advice specific to that country. Booking travel to a country where the Foreign Office has advised against such travel, will result in any claims being rejected.

As a result of the Government advice against overseas and UK school journeys we have amended the policy to provider you with greater clarity as to the operation of the relevant School Journey exclusions. We would not expect to pay claims where bookings have been made after the Government has advised against overseas or UK travel for any known circumstances at the start or at the time of booking at trip.
Essentially this means that prior to booking any trip you should familiarise yourself with the most recent Government guidance in relation to restrictions.
Where a pupil or teacher chooses to travel and has a known or suspected pre-existing medical condition which is likely to result in them requiring treatment while away, this will invalidate any claims in relation to that individual. Where there is any doubt as to a person’s ability to travel they should obtain a letter from a medical professional confirming their fitness to travel.
In relation to Covid, if someone contracts Covid and is unable to travel then Aberdeenshire Council Insurance cover would apply.
In cases where trip providers state that they have cover for Covid, pertinent questions to ask would be as below. Please make sure all answers are given in writing as opposed to verbally.
Schools should also be aware that the limit of cover in respect of cancellation is £50k per event.
