We have created a list of activities to make walking more fun for your children. Choose one activity a day or use the ideas as encouragement when those little legs get tired. Walking is fun.
Can you spot objects that start with the letter a, b c, etc. Can you find an object outdoors for each letter of the Alphabet?
We have made two for younger children, one for town and one for country but you can easily create your own.
How may butterflies can you see? How many bumbles bees? Red cars, red doors, motorbikes, steps etc.

Grasshopper, bumble bee, woodpecker, lorry, tractor, lawnmower – encourage children to identify the sounds.
You can lift rocks etc while out and see what’s hiding underneath.
Don’t let the rain stop you, puddle walks can be great fun, especially during the warmer months.
Encourage your child to capture all the interesting things they see.

Let them take their bike, scooter or roller skates. Let them choose the route or decide whether to go left or right at a junction.
Take a snack for the halfway point or a small treat for every 30/50/100 steps.
Play games along the way like hide n seek, who can jump the highest? Can you walk like a kangaroo?
