Aizle fae Upaland (a spark for rural life) is the first phase of a long-term collaborative project centered on the Aberdeenshire east coast fishing village of Gourdon. Coordinated by a partnership of locally based artists, composers and writers, the aim is to form a clear vision of how the members of the community imagine their future, then work together to turn it into reality.

By creating an innovative cultural hub for the village using local talent and resources, Upaland will become a focal point to exchange knowledge, then develop new possibilities for the region.

This could be through craft or art, sculpture, film, music, theatre... all inspired by the community's heritage but also launching the village into an exciting future as well as providing an inspiring and welcoming place for everyone to discover Gourdon's hidden corners and history.

Upaland is an emerging collaboration between the village of Gourdon and residents Neil Cargill, Mara Marxt Lewis, Tyler Lewis, and Eve Mosher. Together, they are collectively engaging in an imaginative exploration of the past, present and future of this historic fishing village.
