Thursday 16th May saw Active Schools Peterhead host a curricular athletics event for all P5 children in the Peterhead school network in the lead up to our extra-curricular North Aberdeenshire Athletics festival at the end of June.
We worked closely with Head Teachers and schools staff to organise a new event to the network. 129 children took part on the day. Eight of the ten network schools entered a team.
Children either competed in a single event or multiple events. The events were 100m, 200m, long jump, shot putt and javelin. As it that wasn't enough, to finish the event there was a boys and girls 4x100m relay.
Points were awarded to the children / schools as follows: 6 points for first place, 5 for second, 4 for third, 3 for fourth, 2 for fifth and 1 for sixth.
Everyone taking park showed great sportsmanship throughout and did their schools proud. The school award was fiercely contested. Port Erroll victors on this occasion, closely followed by Clerkhill in second place and Peterhead Central in third.
Well done to all the schools who took part, Buchanhaven, Burnhaven, Clerkhill, Dales Park, Meethill, Peterhead Central, Port Erroll and St Fergus.
A special thank you goes out to all the schools Head Teachers and school reps for all the help before, during and after the event. To the invaluable volunteers for their efforts on the day. And of course well done to all the pupils taking part on their immaculate behaviour doing themselves and their schools proud.
We are holding similar trials for P6-P7 pupils in early June - for more information and to sign up visit our or facebook page
