Local Gymnast Completes National Award

Compulsory Level 2

Sunday 12th May 2019

Fenton Manor Sports Centre, Stoke on Trent

The weekend saw Garioch gymnast - Casey Reid (11 from Kemnay) travel to Stoke with coach Janine Robertson & judge Cathy Osborne to take part in her Elite compulsory 2 grading.

This is a Pass/Fail event and features the very best 11 year olds in Great Britain and a likely indication of future Olympic & Commonwealth stars of gymnastics.

Only 36 gymnasts were eligible to sit this award, with only 3 from Scotland.

The Elite grades are particularly hard as they are set skills on each piece of apparatus as well as showing a difficult Range & Conditioning set.  Casey and her Garioch coaches were delighted that Casey passed her Compulsory 2 Elite grade with ease (by 3.25 points) and finished in 17th place as well placing 8th on Floor and Range & Conditioning.

An unfortunate fall on Beam took her overall score down, otherwise she would have placed in the top 10.

This is a remarkable achievement for this young gymnast training out of the Garioch Community Centre in Inverurie where equipment is set up and tidied away each week.  She has firmly cemented herself as a future star of Scottish & British Gymnastics and we can’t wait to see her progress over the next few years.
