The Live Life Outdoors Cycle Base has been supporting “The Promise” across Aberdeenshire since 2024, bringing cycling opportunities to care experienced school pupils from P1 up to S6 and at times that support goes beyond the highly impactful practical sessions delivered by our Senior Coaches.
Working together, our Senior Coaches and our Lead Bike Mechanic, identified several bikes belonging to pupils from within The Promise group at Ellon Academy that were in need of repairs and with the support of Cycling UK, and access to their Repair Fund, the team set about ensuring that the repairs could be completed.
We can now show the before and after images of some of the bikes that we have just returned to their owners, with this work taking place alongside full annual services for the entire fleet of bikes at Ellon Academy, again via the Repair Fund and assisted via additional funding from the Formartine Community Planning Group.
The Live Life Outdoors Cycle Base, along with our partners at a local/national level and working closely with Ellon Academy have extended the life of these bicycles, allowing the pupils to access both active travel to school and further enjoyment of Ellon’s exemplar cycling infrastructure on functioning and safe bicycles.
