Aberdeenshire’s ‘Mountain to the Sea’ Covid Memorial Project Concludes, Celebrating Community Strength

A touring programme of free illustrated talks, film and music is being hosted to mark the conclusion of Aberdeenshire’s significant contribution to Scotland’s Covid Memorial Programme.

“From Mountain to Sea” celebrated the resilience, strength and creativity of local communities during the pandemic and was commissioned by Aberdeenshire Council in partnership with greenspace scotland.

It was led by artist Claudia Zeiske who embarked on an extraordinary 250km walk from Ben MacDui to Peterhead, engaging with more than 200 residents and inviting them to share their personal experiences of the pandemic.

These creative pieces now stand as a symbol of hope and healing for all of Aberdeenshire, including:

  • New Music by Paul Anderson – An album of tunes that sensitively reflects on the experiences of our communities during the pandemic
  • Short Film by Paul Campbell – A moving and optimistic film capturing the sense of well-being gained from spending time outdoors in Aberdeenshire’s landscape
  • A Bespoke Walking Map – The newly designed  map traces Claudia Zeiske's routes, connecting the diverse communities and landscapes of Aberdeenshire
  • A family of benches by Chris Nangle – A series of beautifully crafted benches placed at key locations along the walking route, offering spaces for rest and reflection

To mark the project's conclusion, Claudia will be touring Aberdeenshire to give people an insight into this ambitious project, between November 11-15, in communities which were involved in co-curating the project.

They will provide an opportunity to share insights into the stories, music, film and artwork which appeared throughout this meaningful journey.

Everyone is welcome to attend these events and participate in this celebration of community spirit and resilience.

Free to attend, light refreshments provided.
