Seafit Programme Enquiry Form

Image reads "want to quite smoking" with SeaFit programme logo.

Working at sea can make it challenging to access healthcare and support services such as smoking cessation on a regular basis.

Smoking is a significant health issue in Scotland and a leading cause of preventable ill health, premature death, and disability.
Giving up smoking is an extremely difficult thing to do, even for those who want to, without access to regular support.

The SeaFit Programme is working in partnership with Public Health Scotland on a pilot project which offers fishermen who would like to quit smoking the opportunity to trial the use of a smoking cessation app.

This free app will offer flexible support 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week so you can access it at a time which suits working patterns and being at sea.

  • A quit smoking programme in your pocket.
  • Stop smoking advisors on hand 24/7.
  • Expert led chat groups which you can take part in or simply watch.
  • Information on how long you have been smoke free, how your health is improving, how much money you are saving and more.
  • Guidance for managing cravings and withdrawal, being around other smokers, dealing with difficult situations, using medications, recovering from lapses and adhering to the not-a-puff rule.
  • Support from a community of other quitters.

We are looking to recruit up to 20 fishermen who would like to quit smoking and offer them the chance to trial the app over a period of 12 weeks.

The trial will involve registering with the smoking cessation service at a local pharmacy close to harbourside where you will receive information & guidance about using the app.

Participation will be on a first come first serve basis as spaces are limited.

If you would like more information or to register your interest, please contact Catriona (Healthy Lifestyle Advisor).
